Install kitchen cabinets by measuring and marking the wall before installing a ledger board to support the upper cabinets. Install the upper cabinets before the base cabinets. This process can take several days to complete depending on the size of the kitchen.

 

1. Measure and mark the wall
   Calculate the position of the bottom of the upper cabinets. Take into consideration the height of the base cabinets, the countertop and the desired backsplash. Mark this measurement on the wall. Use a level to continue the measurement around the cabinet wall. Mark the location of electrical wiring, plumbing and wall studs.

   Screw a ledger board to the wall along the line. The ledger board helps support the weight of the upper cabinets during installation.

   Remove the doors from the cabinets. Clamp two wall cabinets together at their front stiles. Make sure the cabinets are plumb and flush. Lift the cabinets onto the ledger board, and screw them into the wall through the back of the cabinets along the thicker framing pieces. Repeat for the other cabinets before removing the ledger board.

7. Hang the base cabinets
   Mark the wall studs for the base cabinets. Install the first base cabinet at the highest point on the floor. Install additional base cabinets beside this one. Check that the cabinets are level, and shim as needed.

How do you fix a crack in a cherry wood kitchen cabinet

Depending on its size and depth, cracks in cherry wood kitchen cabinets can be repaired with liquid furniture, wood filler or furniture wax. Apply the filler with the handle of a plastic utensil and scrape off what gets on the surface of the cabinets. After the filler dries, gently sand the crack without disrupting the surrounding surface. Finally, stain the filler to match the color of the cherry wood cabinets. 

Prior to applying the filler, clean the crack and surrounding area with soap and water, then fill the crack with wood glue and wood shavings. Make sure to leave sufficient time for the filler to dry prior to sanding. Clean the wood dust during and after sanding to prevent it from creating an uneven surface. Even if planning to stain the wood, try to use a filler that best matches the cherry wood color of the cabinets.

When staining, use a small, agile paintbrush to reach the crack and the surrounding area as necessary to avoid inconsistent coloring. For minor cracks, it may be possible to cover over with a scratch repair pen, appropriately colored crayons or magic markers, coffee grounds or black tea that can approximate the kitchen cabinet's cherry wood color.
